I've often wondered why they don't try a power plant like a diesel electric train? Your not moving millions of tons of cargo. Most likely never more than 25-35k lbs. This could be done with a small diesel generator powering two or four electric motors, all weighing around the same as a normal internal combustion engine and drive train.
