I also have a 6.5 bed and tow a Xlite 28SGS. I've checked it for clearance and while I can't go 90 degrees, I can go about 85 before it would hit the truck. That's enough for me.

Sliders are nice and I used to have one, but mine (Reese) was very heavy and hard to install/remove when not using it.

Back in the old days nearly everybody who towed a 5th wheel did so with long beds. Now the situation is reversed from what I see.
