The vent(s) on the AC unit at the ceiling are a "quick cool" or "dump" feature. It lets you cool off that area (living) of the coach faster than air just going through the vents. You can open it for that purpose and then close it to cool off the rest of the rig.

You have to run the fan with the AC. If you have the fan on Auto and the AC comes on the fan will come on. It moves the air through the ducts. The furnace has its own fan built in. It will move the air through the heating ducts. Some people like to run the AC fan with the furnace, also.
