I have had both. Much prefer the electric for ease of operation. Lighting was my the only problem. Solved by replacing the porch light with a starlight (photo cell and motion detector or can be used manually). That was OK, but still wanted more light like the rope lights on my manual awning. Added LED outdoor strip light connected to porch light on side wall under the awning. I now have more light than I had with the manual awning. Everything is good. Even have great lighting when the awning is in.
