If you have a "toothed" rack and pinion slide out, you should not be applying any type of grease to the mechanism. As mentioned earlier, it is best to use a dry-lube type spray --silicone or other dry lubricant. Most RV parts places sell slide sprays.

I usually apply spray 3 or 4 times during our RV season. Once at the beginning, a couple of times in the middle and once again when it is put to bed for the winter.
