Hi and welcome to the forum.
We have a fifth wheel and also a short bed. We opted to go with the Pullrite Super Glide hitch and that was 2 1/2 years ago and we are very happy with it. We happen to leave ours in the bed full time - as all we use our truck for is to haul our fiver. But we did install it with an engine hoist - you are right that thing is heavy.
