The converter, if working properly, will charge your more efficiently than a trickle charger. Unplugged for 30 days with only the factory disconnect off, if it was, your batteries were most likely very low with the parasitic draws from CO/LP detector & the other items that do not get disconnected by the factory disconnect.
If you are running several lights, the fridge, the water heater or any other 12 volt item the fan will run til the converter cools down.
If it seems to be very noisy it's possible it's full of dust or if the previous owner had pets could be hair.
