If money is no object LiFePO4 is superior, no doubt. I first got intrigued when my buddy handed new his Li motorcycle battery, it weighed next to nothing. That's a cranking application, but they are great for 'deep cycle' use as well. They are much smaller and lighter. You can routinely run a Li battery down to 20%, as opposed to 50% for lead acid, so in theory a 230Ah lead acid bank is good for 115 amp hours vs 183 for Li. They can be charged faster, and they have a lot more charge cycle life, like 5x. As far as fire, the cell phone and laptop batteries that have had fire issues are a completely different animal.

I haven't found any technical reason NOT to go with LiFePO4, it's just cost. If you factor longevity that's not even a factor, but the initial outlay is a few grand.
