It will not switch from ac to heat automatically. It will run furnace if the heat pump can't keep up & the ambient temp drops 3-5 degrees below tstat setting. Also if you set it to hp & the temp is 3-5 degrees below that setting the furnace will kick on til the temp inside catches up.
