We also travel with three other animals that take up the back seat so putting the larger dog back there isn't an option. We used to put her in the bed between the cab and hitch, but the hitch and trailer scared her. If they would change the laws allowing kids to ride in trailers I would consider swapping their positions.... It would definitely be quieter and more peaceful with the old dog in the back seat.
