A lot of it depends on the dog. Ours is 60 lbs, the OP's is 80, that is a lot different than an 150 lb. Our dog is 12 years old and just lays down for the ride. She has never gotten sick and on a few occasions we had to coax her off the couch to get her to come outside when we stopped, she was chilled out, taking a nap. A younger or more aggressive or active dog may be a different story.
