The "Horseshoe" is what stops the slide from over extending. Depending on what type of slide it is, you can take steps to stop it form happening. biggest thing is to let go of the button as the slide makes full contact with the sidewall. You will have to remove the facia trim in order to re secure the screw, just move it to a different spot.
