My wife is in the insurance business, and employed by a very large company based in Illinois. She has said many, many times that you get what you pay for. Also, your coverage is only as good as your local agent. You would be amazed at the stories she has concerning many of these "name brand, discount" insurance companies.

She has had clients take their coverage to the "cheaper" insurers, and then call her when they have a claim problem. Because she is good-natured to a fault, the soft spot in her heart often helps these folks with claim problems, even when it's with another insurance company.

If you have a good, reputable, local agent to go to bat for you, your claim headaches will be non-existent. That is, providing your claim is legit and you aren't having unreasonable expectations.
