We usually spend the winter where it is warmer. Since we are staying for 2-3 months, we take a second vehicle to drive while we are away. We use the second vehicle as a scout to find accessible gas stations and to pick up lunch while traveling. The campgrounds we use have plenty of space to park 2 vehicles or I will park my truck in the overflow lot.

Our second vehicle is a 21 year old 2 seater convertible. It is much more fun to drive with the top down than my truck and it gets 25-30 mpg. It is a little more effort getting there but I figure we break even considering the gas savings for not using my truck while we are camping over the winter.
