I was told that we ended up with Waukesha because Caterpillar was back ordered and we didn't want to wait.
Supposedly the CAT has a drawback in that it runs so lean that it has issues keeping the catalytic converter "lit off".
So much is based on environmental issues. Our compressor stations were built next to Hwy 83, practically under the power lines. But it was such a boom time growth the utility company couldn't commit to providing power for electric motor drivers. Our environ study had to include the pollution created by the nearby highway, which of course we had no control over.
