I prefer being barefoot on the roof if I'm up there. So, I wear my sandals (slip-on ones) up the ladder and one step on the roof and take them off. Do whatever needs done and put them on right before stepping onto the ladder again. Once or twice that was a pain in the hiney so I just walked around with my berkenstocks on. Didn't look like they hurt anything up there either, but I did try to "tread lightly".
