So now to the next TV, you will not be in a payload pinch so tough choice. The F450 comparably equipped will have less sticker payload than the same F350.
The reason both the F350 and F450 have a 14,000# GVWR, Ford does this to the F450 pickup to make insurance and registration less costly.
The F450 is a stronger and heavier truck, that is why the payload is less. If you plan on going bigger in the future get the F450.

Bet the Lariat model, 4x4 and such means the payload of the 250 is around 2K lbs. He is over I am guessing but he didn't want to go over the 250's capabilities but is looking for a larger and more suitable camper. I have an F350 and it has the turning radius of the Queen Mary. Would love to have an F450 but they cost more than my house so will stick with my clunker. If you have the means, go big with the F450.
