To find the aluminum tubes to attach to, I used a stud finder to get a sense for where the tubes would be. Then I drilled 1/16 diameter holes under where the plate would cover then until I found the edge of the tubes.

There is not enough material to thread the tubes. I guesstimate that they only have a .030 wall thickness. I used #12 sheet metal screws.
