Larry, mine is brand new. What I meant to say is that the screen is LCD style with a weak backlight as opposed to a newer style LCD screen, like a phone, that you can see it well.
I think I mostly resolved my problem by tilting the monitor up a bit to increase the contrast at my viewing position.
