RF noise from motors, etc? A converter going bad throwing RF noise?
Does it only happen on your weakest channels? Most digital TVs have a signal strength meter for the channel you're watching buried in the setup menu somewhere. See if you can correlate it to signal strength dropping.
If you have old/brittle cable, water ingress into the cable will make an already weak signal even weaker. Then a noise source starts up, poof... Now too weak to receive.
