^^^^This is what we do. I think it all depends on how often you plan to go and the time period between. Ours will sit months without going out so we leave the mattress protector on with a bedspread and a couple of throw pillows. In preparation for an upcoming trip we wash two sets of sheets; one goes on the bed fresh and we keep another set in a vacuum packed vinyl container in the event they are needed.
