You might want to make sure the frame/cutout/window is square. Maybe the hole was cut off square putting a bind on the window? I've heard of windows shattering going down the road but it's not common in my experience. A rock hitting the window on the side, with a glancing blow, would have to be quite something to break that window IMO. Wishing you the best in getting this resolved quickly.
