My understanding is most diesels use a rear cylinder for regen The injector is different in that cyl. Carbon builds up in the particulate filter and the computer opens that rear cyl injector and dumps a large volume of fuel so it burns in the particulate filter and incinerates the carbon. Thank the EPA for that. Diesels are built to be run on the highway and using them as a "go getter" or driving in stop and go traffic will cause issues.
