I'm pretty certain my F150 has a 26 gallon tank. I go to WV a lot from Virginia Beach VA and have never had a problem on the by-roads of WV running out of gas. Last trip we took was from Hollister NC to Mt Airy NC all back roads (158 and a few other lesser paths). . . averaged 9.5MPG and never had a thought running low on fuel, we just mostly tried to do a fuel stop before gauge got to 1/4 empty.
I also use the DeLorme Topo North America road atlas computer mapping program to plot my trips, it's a great tool for figuring out good routes, projected refueling, and breaks. The program is excellent I think for towing, and once you add your preferences a trustful no brainer
Good luck on what you decide to do
