There is a "retrofit" conversion spout available to replace the "new style" with the old style spout. The kit even has the "vent hole/cap" so you can convert your "new style spillable" cans to the "old style/workable" cans.
Here's one source, but they are available from a number of places including Amazon and EBay. I'm sure they "aren't legal everywhere" although most states probably have a "grandfather clause" for old cans..........
