We lost a ground prong on our 50 amp cord a while back, and even though the prong was still attached in the molded plug, it was broken inside the plug. When unplugging the 50 amp plug from a 50 to 30 amp adapter while trying to figure out why the ground was missing, the prong finally came out of the 50 amp plug and stayed in the adapter. This condition would not have been noticed by a portable EMS.
Doubly important if you have a power cord reel like our 5th wheel. There are brushes in the cord reel that transfer the for leads to the rotating dump and four connection points on each side of the drum(in and out). So additional places that neutral can be dropped and burn up all of ones AC devices with 240 volts across them.
