Maybe you're misunderstanding what is smaller or larger. The designated size of the ST255/85R16 is smaller than the designated size ST235/85R16. The industry standard for replacement tires states that replacement tires cannot be smaller than the OE tires, and the replacement tires must provide a load capacity equal to or greater than what the OE tires provided at the recommended cold inflation PSI.

Because there is more than one manufacturer building the ST255/85R16 there isn't much justification to ask for another size.
