For most of my RVing I've never bothered but with the cost of new converters and boards it only makes sense to have one. I even use it in between the TT and the generator as if it malfunctions it could send a pretty big jolt of power through everything and fry it pretty quickly.
A good surge protector doesn't cost much compared to a ruined vacation waiting for parts.
