Sorry for your troubles. Do you mean inverter or CONVERTER?

Converter is common, and supplies 12V to trailer and charges battery(s) when plugged into shore power.

Inverter uses the battery(s) to produce 110VAC for things like refers and TV's.
From your description I would say it's the converter that took the hit. Good time to toss it and upgrade IMO AFTER you install a surge protector.
