Using 43 gallons in 8k miles, you've gotta problem, not sure it could leak that much that fast.
My '13 used a 2.5 gallon jug about every 3500 miles, towing didn't seem to increase usage, but it was our daily driver & was towing approximately 50%+ of the time.
