Look at pictures online
If you look at pictures online you will see the threads are narrower than the shaft - are you looking at the nut and threads and assuming they are 3/8 all the way through?

Model number
What model number do you have (Floor plan) when you remove the P-trap is it full of water ? Could the blockage be between the sink and the P-trap in the tailpiece of the sink?
