Could be a broken gear like stated. Mine won't wind unless I help feed it while it's running. I also have to guide it so it winds in tight to itself or it won't fit.

The problem with marine batteries is they are not true deep cycle batteries. Once they are discharged too low they don't come back. You will be better off with Golf Cart Batteries or Lithium.

Yes I tried gluing from the inside of the wall. I can feel it's very smooth on the back side of the paneling. I don't think it's real wood. I just ordered some Loctite 2 part epoxy I'm going to try.
