If you want full coverage on the trailer then yes you will likely need to add it to your policy. Most truck policies only cover the trailer being towed by the truck for liability when connected.

For reference the empty weight was suppose to be 4,560lbs. so I close to a 1,000lbs of stuff added to the trailer. Small trailer and two people so I think it is close to what you are looking at.

I have a passport 23rb and have been running the carlisle radial trail hd for 10,000 miles with be issues. Seems to be a good tire vs cost tire for the smaller and lighter trailers.
