This happens to me at different elevations and...

This happens to me at different elevations and it's just soot build up. I just crank up the burner for a few minutes and then hit it a few times with a rubber mallet. The soot build up will burn off....

I did measure it and they sent me the wrong length and I wasn't about to return it as winter will be over by the time that they send me a new one.
As for it being buried it doesn't harm it at all....

Yup it hits a certain temp and then it kicks in. Yes the thermal sensor will be touching the elbow when it's all said and done. I can't coil it around the hose as it says that the cable can't overlap...

I pour boiling water down the sink all the time and I've never had a problem. Everything is the same as a house except it's been put together by Keystone so you know that you'll have problems....

X2. I can't remember the last time that I've seen let alone used surge brakes. I think when I had boats they had surge brakes and they were a PIA.
