Our converter is indeed under the pantry and out of the way in our Outback 5th wheel. Seems odd the same company would do it differently in a same model travel trailer and differently in a 5th wheel....

You could also have mud dauber nest/nests in the combustion tube. After the initial ignition the oxygen is used up causing the flame to reduce and eventually run out of oxygen.

You can indeed cover the spot, but the side panels are yellowed giving a dirty look. The clear coat on the panels prevents cleaning or bleaching to get it back to the original white.
