We take highway 2 all the way to the border, then it turns to 89 south of the border. We always turn east on 464 (Duck Lake Road) just south of Babb and avoid the curves on the Saint Mary highway...

Might be too late for you, but we just got back from the Lake Five Resort just west of West Glacier. A bit cramped, but the lake is fantastic and the campground was very friendly and well run.
