Was looking for some info about hooking up my welder its Voltage 230 and 40 amps.

Have power to the 5th wheel its 50 amp setup.

But I see that the plugs are diff on the rv & welder cords.
And I know power to my rv is 120/240v four wire (hot hot neutral ground)

And a welder needs to be straight 240v with three wires (hot hot ground)
Was asking a guy a few days ago and he was talking about using this setup
NEMA 14-50P plug, NEMA 6-50R receptacle and a short length of 6-3 SOOW cord.

How would this work and is it safe to do.

Thanks Ron.

Not sure what your question is, but basically this is just an adapter to allow making the connection in spite of the mis-match between NEMA 14 and NEMA 6.

NEMA 14 is designed to allow connections of 120V and 240V (considering only single phase).

IMHO, it is entirely safe. You are not going to be able to use the neutral on the NEMA 14, but since you won't be needing 120V for the welder....

These things aren't cheap, but are commercially available:

With the proper adapter, I believe you should be able to run your welder off the campground's power post.

What I would strongly recommend against is using ANY of the RV wiring and electrical system for your welder. Run it off the power post ONLY.

From your original post I get the impression that the 50amp RV outlet is at your home. Regardless of location, a properly wired adapter should work just fine. .............. If at a CG the management might frown its use if electricity is included in site fee. I hope this helps, Hank

Yes the rv power is at the barn in the back of the house.
Now I just need to find a good price on the adapter :)
