Wife's pushing me pretty hard!

Is there any one out there that has or is towing a Cougar 291RLS with a Dodge 1500 appropriately configured? I have been told that it is being done, but would like to talk with someone who has done it before purchasing the trailer. The 1500 TV will have the tow package with Hemi engine with high end rear end and air bag suspension.

Have a friend hauling a Sprinter 300KBS which is a little heavier then the camper your looking at.

He hauls it ok with his outdoors man truck the way it is configured. Has trailer brake controller , tow mirrors and most importantly the 3.92 rear. I feel he is pushing his limits and do not know how well he would fare out at a scale or quick stop.

I have a 2011 Ram Quad cab SLT with all the same as his but no 3.92 rear and I could not even chance hauling his camper. 3.92 rear gives him 10000pds haul compared to my 8800pds.

Your set up should be ok if you have the 3.92 rear as your max trailer is 9000. Your main issue may be hitch weight as that will drop close to 1200pds on your back with a truck rated for 1500 not leaving a lot of room for gear in the back.

Thanks For your feed back. Since my post on the Forum, after doing some tedious and persistent searching , I was able to get to a site with Dodge that gave me in depth figures on the Dodge Ram 1500 I have on order. The way I have it configured, Tow max = 10,450 and Payload max = 1909.

Feel much better now, won' be maxing the vehicle out!

I have a 2011 276RLS, fairly similar, real world all loaded for travel it weighs in at 9000 lbs, it is listed at 7200 Dry and it puts around 1800 lbs onto the truck, listed in the brochure at 1350.

Just to give you a rough reference.

Tom, the gross vehicle weight of a 291RLS is over 10,000 lbs putting it at your max. The empty pin weight is 1500 lbs not counting the weight of your hitch, propane, driver and passengers and anything else you will be storing in front of the trailer axles. You will be definitely over your trucks payload. It may tow it fine but be aware that the 1500 will be working real hard. One thing if you do go with it, check the ratings of your tires, as they and the coilspring suspension will be the weak link. Travel safely, Hank
