In surfing the net for Maxxis tires to replace my TowMax, I was surprised to see Amazon carried them but was really unhappy with the price. I've discovered Summit Racing carries them for over $90 less apiece and free shipping. I plan to replace the TowMax 225/75-15D tires with Maxxis 225/75-15E tires for peace of mind.
Edit: Oops, another check shows them on Amazon now for less. What a price swing! Also now shows them as Prime (free shipping) which they didn't have a few days ago. I just don't want to order them until the spring.

Discount tire/Americas tire has Maxxis. If they aren't in stock, it usually takes them 1 day to get them. Normally the 205's are LRD, the 225's LRE. And the price was very competitive, especially considering your getting a LRD or LRE instead of a LRC or LRD. In addition, they often have the $100 rebate deals on 4 tires and the Maxxis qualify. If you don't have a americas tire/Discount tire nearby, you can order them online and they will ship them either to a local dealer they have lined up to do the install or a dealer of your choice, or your house.

In addition for another $15 IIRC you can get the road hazard free replacement warranty, good to have on a TT tire. And the road hazard warranty is a good one. I had a blowout on car tire from a water main cover (actually one blowout and on tire with a big bulge) . Nearest dealer was 500 miles away. Gave them a call, they couldn't find any dealers with the same tire in the town I was at, said to buy 2 new replacement tires have them mounted and balanced and when I returned they would cut me a check for the tires and install the replacement tires. In addtion, I didn't need to return the two damaged tires. They also offered to overnight tires to a dealer, but they wouldn't have arrived till monday and I needed to leave on sunday, so I choose the "buy the tires, get the check" choice. When I returned, drove in, 30 minutes later tires replaced and check in hand.

Good move switching to Maxxis. I hope you get the same service from them that I have.

I also got a set of Maxxis M8008 from Discount Tire, competitive pricing and they'll have them anywhere in the US in a day or two (drop-shipped from the nearest distribution center.)

I've been giving serious thought to replacing my current tires with Maxxis tires - thanks for sharing.

I found the best price for the size I needed on Amazon, and bought the one year Prime subscription to avoid shipping cost. I definitely got my money's worth on Prime over the next 12 months.

I've been an Amazon Prime customer for a couple of years. It saves me money as I no longer have to find something else to buy to get the order over $25. And I can stream thousands of free videos via my Roku or Kindle, and borrow a book a month on my Kindle. The current price of the Maxxis M8008 LRE is the best I've seen anywhere.

Jack -
I'm also looking at getting a set of 4 Maxxis from Discount. Phoned one of their stores in WA who quoted me a price of $700+ (mtd, bal) for this same tire. I asked the guy on the phone if all the Discount Tires outlets - no matter where they are located - have the same prices on their tires. He said that they do but the $638 out the door price you are paying is a bit different from what I was quoted. ???

Festus2,

Maxxis 225 75R15/E ST8808 tires at the discount tire website are $157 each with free shipping and a $30 Visa rebate gift card. Adding $10 a tire for mount/balance would make them about $638 out the door... I got those prices from the website, not from a store. Maybe there's a difference based on Canadian delivery or a currency conversion difference?

Website indicates FREE shipping to 48 states plus Canada so there would be no shipping charges and the exchange rate wouldn't be a factor as they would only accept American currency. If I had them shipped to Canada, I would probably end up paying duty/customs plus paying for installation, etc.

Since we will be going south shortly, I will stop in at one of the Discount Tire outlets soon after we cross the border. They would need a few days notice since they don't always have them in stock.

I'll phone up a couple of more stores to get another quote and pass on the information that you found about website pricing.

Different states also have some additional "fees" for example oregon has a mandatory tire disposal "fee" on each tire sold. Last august I paid $683 for 4 225/75-15 LRE after $100 rebate on a set, mounted and balanced and oregon disposal fee, $10/tire IIRC. And balancing was about $15/tire IIRC since I had them use tape on weights on my allow wheels. So take 683 less $40 oregon disposal, less $20 for balancing difference = $623. but tires have gone up since then.

Also, if you go to the discount tire website you can do a pricing for install at a local store then print that out. In fact you can do the purchase online and set up a time for install at a local store if you want. If you do an online purchase it will show any local pricing requirements like disposal fee etc.

Well you all ran Discount out of the Maxxis, Was looking for the 15's in a E load. None to be found so far. Tried 2 places so far, none in stock and up to 12 weeks to wait. Was looking at Carlisle. I know they have a bad rep, but they have revamped the tire and I can get a E rated tire also. Anyone have any experience good or bad with this tire?

In need of a pair of Maxxis M8008 ST225/75R15Ds. Not the LRE. Do not suggest I get the LRE.

DiscountTireDirect only sells the LRE and the nearest actual Discount Tire store is over 150 miles away.

Found out you can order directly from Maxxis at https://www.shopmaxxis.com/b2c --- if you're made of money. $191 for a $120 tire? No thanks. And you have to pay shipping, too.

Amazon is not much better. Currently $163 each, plus $24 shipping.

Then there's maxxistrailertires.com --- they are only a distributor though. I don't like websites that are hardwired to show EVERY tire in stock, when we know full well that ain't the case. Good price, though: $135 with free shipping, if you're willing to wait forever.

Summit Racing initially claimed "ships tomorrow" until I emailed them about their $147 price with free shipping. Now the site says "ships in 26 days if you order today". As a fulltime RVer, that's just too long to wait in one place.

Simpletire.com has a great $129 price, but they're out of stock, of course.

I finally went with autoplicity.com. Their website boasts "fast free shipping" in combination with their real-time "inventory that's 100% in stock only". Plus they have very popular reviews. They had exactly two of the LRDs I needed, for $140 each including delivery by UPS. I was so excited! Back then. It has now been a full week, and still no ship notification. I have been assured that my "where are they?" email will be answered in the order it was received. In other words, some time soon. Autoplicity? You mean Duplicity! :banghead:

If I can't get Maxxis by the end of the month, I may have to get a dreaded Carlisle!

Update: Finally got the Maxxis tires, almost 2 weeks after placing the order with autoplicity.com. Contrary to all expectations, they were not in stock as advertised, they were not shipped directly from Autoplicity, and they were not shipped UPS Ground "Hold For Pickup" to the UPS depot address I indicated. It took more than a week for them to drop-ship them---via FedEx Ground. FedEx does not deliver to UPS depots. They also failed to put my phone number on the tires, so there was no way for FedEx to contact me regarding delivery. So I took it upon myself to wait outside the UPS depot for several hours (one of the many perks of retirement) so that I could flag down the FedEx guy before he marked the tires as undeliverable. What a fiasco.
