Diesel fuel tank for bed

Anyone using a wedge diesel tank in their diesel pickup bed for 5th Wheel Towing? Most are around 60 gallons and can be directly connected to existing fuel tank thus getting approximately 90 gallons onboard. How do you like the system? Did you self-install?

I've always wanted to but the extra 500+ pounds and loss of space in bed has kept me from doing it ...... so far. It's still tempting, Hank

Second that. I have done it hauling our Jeeps to rock crawl. It is nice to have. Extends you runs and usually, fuel for us is cheaper in SC. We have the terminals within 20 miles of home!!

I have a wedge tank installed. It is from ATTA in Fort Worth, TX, and they installed it - took one morning. Though it is 94 gallons, I have yet to put that much diesel in it. It is an aluminum tank, not steel, and it does have the sensors and connections to pump directly into the truck's fuel system. (At 3/4 tank, it starts pumping until it reaches 7/8 tank.)

Several reasons I like this tank. It is a wedge, so I can directly see the hitch but not the tank. The tank has a fill point on each side, so it doesn't matter which pump is available - I can fill from either side. If need be, I can carry enough diesel to not have to worry about pulling the fiver through the station islands - just get some diesel when we have to "run to the store" - and like I said, I usually put an additional 30 gallons or so in it. If I find diesel at a lower price, I can put more in it at a cheaper price. If I know it will be a distance before diesel is available, no problems. I did not get one with an integrated tool box, basically for the reason that Hankpage mentions - didn't want to put additional weight in the truck bed along with the weight of the diesel.

One additional nice item about the tank. Here in the lower 48, some Kroger grocery stores sell diesel at their store's fuel station. We do shop at Kroger and use their little tracking card, so after $100 in groceries, I can get 35 gallons of diesel at a $0.10/gallon discount. Well, our local Kroger usually has diesel at five cents a gallon cheaper than anywhere else, so that amounts to a 15 cent/gallon discount! Just put the nozzle in the tank, set it on auto, and wait for the auto-shutoff after 35 gallons. Otherwise, it is a 3 cent/gallon discount on the Kroger price.

For those concerned about bed space (like myself), have you looked at the Titan replacement tanks? Probably my next truck upgrade. You won't get to 90 gallons but 60 and bed space isn't too shabby.

I have a 90USgal RDS tank with the top 6" being toolbox. IT is not a problem for room in a 8' box but would not work with a shortbox.

I love the option of getting fuel when I want to , not when I have to.

I had 100 gallon tank in the back of all of my previous trucks. I have not done anything with my new truck yet. I may just replace my factory 35 gallon tank with a replacement 52 gallon take from the cab and chassis model.

seemed to make sense getting the larger tank but 17 gallon increase was not worth the $1000.00+ price tag

Right now my 37.5 gallon fuel tank and my bladder seem to have about the same range... I don't think I could stand a bigger fuel tank... :D

Funny...that is the EXACT reason I have not upgraded my tank to a larger one. I could not stay seated for any additional time anyway so might as well grab some fuel while I am stretching my legs and what not.

Getting ready to install at least a 100 gallon tank in our f350 so we can make the trip to the fla keys with only having to stop and let the wife and dogs use the restroom and that can be done at the rest areas instead of all the traffic and hassel of finding a place to get the big 5ver in to get fuel:D just my to cents.

On my trip to the Keys, I only stopped at Pilot Truck Stops and the travel plazas on the Florida Turnpike. There were enough of them located along the way to never make getting fuel an issue.

Save your money and try FlyingJ truck stops. Their RV lanes will handle any rig. I run from Jersey to central Florida every year, stopping three times for fuel and bladder breaks. If you are traveling the interstates, especially on the East coast, you will never have a problem finding truck stops or large stations for fuel. Again .... total fuel weight over 1000 lbs plus the weight of the tank ... expect your mileage to drop. Also many stations will not honor your credit card for that size purchase. You are also providing a great place for condensation and little slimy critters to grow in your fuel especially if you don't keep it full. Carry extra filters. JM2¢, Hank

Between Pilot , Flying J, T/A and Love's, you can get fuel with the ease of getting in and out with no hassle. I would also suggest topping off at the service plaza at exit 19 before leaving the Florida Turnpike.
