Heated water hose

I ordered my heated water hose from CW last night. They let me know today that it is out of stock, indefinitely.
I was wondering if there is a safe alternative, such as run whatchbrung and adding heat tape and foam wrap from a hardware store.
Any input?

I would be concerned with the hose blistering from the heat tape. My local RV dealership still carries them. I am sure that they would ship one to you.

Folks have been doing exactly that for many years. If I was going to do it, I'd find some foam pipe insulation large enough for the hose and the heat tape, and then wrap it up with either a vinyl tape or gorilla tape without compressing the foam.

Excellent question. One which I have been pondering for some three years without any decision. Do I order a Pirit heated hose from Amazon in spite of the horrible reviews? Are those bad reviews from owners who mis-handled the heated hose, while the good reviews are from responsible owners? Or, do I construct my own in the way Steve suggests? Which decision is best? :confused:

The H-tape worked well now 4 years.I just plug it in as needed.Cheep fix use it with a foam pipe rap also spring comes store it away...Bushman...:D

Since hose froze once already this year I need to try something. Being a total newbie I have a question. Distance from hose bib to TT connection is like 24.5'. So if I use a 25' hose it's hanging in the air. My current hose is a 50'. Would it be a problem if I used HT and foam and just left the excess lenght on the ground?

You have just a short or a long hose.I would get a short one and add it.W-mart sells a 8-foot one .Or cut the long one the exact size You need Ok I have extra for cutting for that same reason ...Bushman...:D

Exactly what I did. Works like a champ. 25' is the length I made.

Howdy All;

Tried the Pirit hose one year in Ut. (-40* temps),
worked fine till it warmed up for a few days (+40* and up),
then it melted :(
Since I have gone with the white hose and HT attached with
elect. tape. Wrap in 1.5" ID
foam hose and pipe insulation, tape the lengths down the seam and
a few wraps at each section where they meet. Works fin, lasts a long
time.

They (HT manuf.), advertise that they will heat up to 3' away from the end
of the tape .... (grain of salt), ... I would (IMOP), cut and splice a too
long hose to a working length, but be aware that some of the cheaper
hoses have a super thin wall thickness and the "repair ends" won't seal.
Get the better quality hose from a blue or orange box store...

Put aluminum foil tape on it to help spread the heat

Run the heat tape along the hose and tape with electrical tape every 6" do not wrap the hose

1" plus pipe insulation but not the split type use a vaccuum to suck a string thru and pull the hose thru.

tape the joints

Wrap with bubble wrap smaller the bubble the better

Nearly 50 feet some in high traffic area under ground in 4" sewer pipe

Going on 4 years and never a freeze up but use the EXPENSIVE heat tape probably $2-3 per foot it's worth it

We did all of the above and so far we have been safe. We also added an outlet thing that the power cord plugs into that turns the power source on when the temp goes below a certain temperature. Since I pay a monthly fee to park our rig at a KOA for work lodgings I am repsonsible to pay my electric bill. This helps to keep our bill as low as possible.
