Newbie passport 238ml

About to purchase a 2012 passport 238ml new to all of this. Pick up of new unit and signing papers is Thursday. Checked a few blogs out yesterday and reviews just to make sure we were making right choice one question we have is regarding electrics seems like if you have hot water heater going with air conditioner and you use microwave you could trip a breaker has anyone had electrical problems or can anyone give us advise on this. Love the TT and don't really want to back out of the deal but want to make sure we are making the right decision would love to hear all the positives and negatives on this unit. Thanks

Welcome, If you do a forum search you will find many posts concerning water heaters and A/C running together. It is not the fault of the Passport, it is that trailers with 30amp supplies are limited to 30amps of usage. Switch the water heater to propane (more efficient anyway) and problem solved. I’ve tripped a campground breaker on a hot day while running the A/C and water heater at the same time. I think the breaker was a little weak because that was a first for me. Nothing wrong with the trailer. While propane is more efficient for running the water heater and fridge, campground electricity is free (for me) and I like to save my propane.

:wlcm: to the forum. Congrats on the new passport. I will tell you 30amps is not alot of wiggle room but you will learn what works for you. Our camper is 30 amp and depending on what we are doing like using a blow dryer with a lot of stuff on will trip the breaker. But we just work around it. It's not like you will have all that running all day or night at one time:). The A/C should be on a seprate breaker as well as the hot water heater. The situation you're describing can occur with ANY RV (any brand, any manufacturer) which has 30 amp service.

Simply put, it's usually the result of using too many electrical items at the same time. I guess you could
say it's another *sign of the times*..... RV owners now want all of the comforts of home: air conditioning,
electric hot water heater & electric refrig, microwave, multiple TV's, coffee pot, computer, cell phones,
etc, etc, and a 30 amp service can't run all of these items at the same time!

It takes a bit of strategy ;) (especially when using A/C), but as others have you said, you'll learn
to vary the use of electric appliances & gadgets whenever necessary.

That happened to us once when I was using the electric griddle while the a/c was running, but it was a quick fix. It will happen to you also, but it's not a big deal. Like another poster said, you will learn what you can use with other electrical things. Our Keystone Springdale has been a great addition to our family. We love it. We too have the same model. You will find that it is rare that you will use all of these at the same time. We never leave the hot water heater on and it stays hot all day. Just make sure to turn it on before showering. As mentioned above, use Lp as it heats up the water much faster and there is no issue with the camper it's the 30 amp service. By the way we love our new 238ML. :wlcm:

Walter :wlcm: we were out last weekend and tripped at least three times ,then I got on this forum and read some other post about the same problem and I learned quick what to use and not to use at the same time and found out the water heater on gas does help I didn't trip anymore after switching it to gas, that was our third time in this RV and I still would recommend a keystone product !!,"bouncey:"bouncey::wlcm: ⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄

Ditto.....we were in Gatlinburg a cpl of weeks go. 104 degrees.....running the ac and hot water on electric...all ok. Used the microwaveand a toaster oven outside (cooking for 9) and it got quiet all of a sudden. Tripped the breaker 3 times then swithed to gas on hot water.....all ok. I think we may have put the fridge on gas too for a bit.

Bottom line: very manageable. Only time we ran into this. Have run ac with hot water and fridge with no issues many times. Othe appliances took us over the top.
