Wisconsin Dells Campgrounds

We are trying to decide where to stay in the Wisconsin Dells with a 37' Montana with 4 slides. Want good cable and internet.

Under consideration are Stand Rock, Sherwood Forest, KOA, Yogi Bear, or Holiday Shores. Any input on these?

Stayed at Holiday Shores last summer. I'll just describe what I remember about our experience so you can get an idea. We have AT&T phones and got poor reception at the campground (our site was by the river). I would not recommend the sites near the river as we barely were able to back our 35 foot fifth wheel into the spot. There was a retaining wall on the opposite side of where we were backing into so it was a challenge. When we finally got into the spot, the nearby campers were clapping for our success! At the time of our stay, June 2011, there was not internet available at the campsites but it was available at the office. There is an outdoor, and indoor seating area to eat, or use the internet. The office serves also as a mini-store, and bakery. They have extremely good doughnuts that one puts an order in for the night before you want them. In the morning you simply stop by to pick up your fresh made-to-order doughnuts. They were extremely yummy.

We don't have children, but this campground seems well suited for them. If you visit their website you'll see the swimming beach and pool.

I think I would have remembered if cable tv was available. I believe it was not an option.

Would we go back to Holiday Shores Campground? Yes... however, we would camp at the sites farthest away from the river. There are larger pull-throughs that are available away from the river with plenty of room for larger rigs. I would never camp anywhere else at this park despite what the park people may tell you. When we made our reservation for a river site, we were assured that there would be plenty of room for our camper... and we barely got in. Also, if you're near the river, everybody thinks your campsite is a path to access the river. We had a relatively constant flow of unsolicited visitors passing through our campsite.

There is more activity at this park than I've ever seen at another with the seasonal customers. Everybody seems to have a golf cart and likes to whizz around the campground at top speed... many of whom had alcoholic beverages in their hands.

There are two ways to enter this park. 1. A long driveway on a narrow road. 2. a quick-access gate to the upper campground (containing the drive-through sites). I think one can make arrangements to initially get into the park by the gate option to more easily access the pull-through sites. It would be a considerably shorter route. Be advised the the upper sites are a considerable distance from the swimming beach (possibly a quarter of a mile, and maybe a block or two from the swimming pool).

We were in The Dells last year and stayed at Baraboo Hills Campground, just a short drive from The Dells. It was very nice, don't remember it having cable though. We have a 30' travel trailer and getting in the site was a little tight, but not bad. If you have kids with you this is a great campground, instead of renting bikes, paying for mini golf and such by the 1/2 hour or game you buy a wrist band that is good for your stay and you get most of it back as a deposit when you leave. Many things for the kids to do and a great ice cream sundae bar. If I remember right it was like $2 or $3, then made it yourself with any and all toppings they had setting out, I'll go back just for the sundae bar :) Had a great pool, nice laundry area, staff very helpful and some spots were pretty secluded. We were just at Sherwood Forest the end of May and there are only a limited number of sites you could get a unit that big into. There is no cable that I know of and not sure about the internet. The trees are pretty thick and TV reception isn't the greatest, a lot of their sites are not very level and can be difficult to level trailer. The nice thing about the park is that is within walking distance to town and several attractions. If you decide to stay there make sure you ask for a pull through sight at the top of the hill. They are some of the bigger sites. We would stay there again but not on a weekend or holiday, they really pack them in durring that time. We got there on a Sunday and wait for people to move all the extra cars out of the way just to get back to our campsite.

We have not been there for awhile (even though we live only 80 miles away). Prior to that when our Children were younger, we used to frequently stay at Stand Rock. Excellent place at that time, some sites shaded and some not. There was a mini golf area and a small pond you could go fishing in, and it was just fare enough away that you were away from the hustle and bustle of things. Not sure about wi-fi, etc.
The most updated one that I am aware of is a new RV facility built within the last year or so at the Ho-Chunk Casino just south of the Dells near Baraboo. Their website does mention it however, I havent seen any reviews. If looking for modern amenities and a site for larger rigs, that might be the place to check out. Good Luck and enjoy!

We stayed at Yogi Bear last year and it was a bit of a struggle. We told them we had a 35' camper but they tried to put us in a site made for a pop up. After evaluating 3 other sites we spent the extra money for the "full hookup" with sewer. That site was ok. Park just isn't built for larger rigs in my opinion. Cell phone service with Att was fine and we used our DirectV satellite without issue. Ammenities at campground we great.

You definitely need to let everybody know what park you decide on! The Dells are a great area. So far... I'm a bit surprised that, like my experience, people seem to be having difficulties finding larger sites for the bigger rigs in the Dells area.

Jellystone! I live somewhat close to the Dells and we drove through a few campgrounds. This one was pretty nice. Lots of sites and it's not right dead in the middle of the Dells like a couple of them are.
