Question about something I saw on a Montana

I was parked next to a new Montana and noticed 2 small cables on each side of the 5 slides. Never seen anything like this before. What are the cables for? It's all hydraulic, so why the cables? Thanks

I’ll take a wild guess that it’s for inside electrical, like lights and outlets.

under the slides? With our Montana it is the hydraulic lines with this very wide rubber piece that holds them. Recently that broke on ours, not the lines but the rubber thing that holds them up. That is what I said I will take pictures of when I get a chance.

Meanwhile, we did ties to keep them up. I have a feeling it is for comestic appearance.

On our Montana the bedroom slide is electric with small cables top and bottom each side,, and the living area slides are hydraulic. What you are probably seeing are the cables that pull the slides in and out but I didn't think that the Montana had all electric slides. Happy Campin.............Ron

mine are hydraulic, although you need juice to let them slide.

The newer slide units are electric/cable.

Saves weight and guess what, it's cheaper too, who would've guessed.

DEPENDING on the model the slides are electric. a motor turuns a drum and the cables pull the slides in and out. kinda like an Italian window regulator. it realy has been a great system"bouncey:

I believe SAABDOCTOR has the answer. Their small steel cables located about a foot from the top and bottom on all slides. This is a huge Montana with 5 slides, 2 doors, Level-up system, Sat dish on top, and who knows how many others bells & whistles. It's still got paper plates that says it's a 2013 model. Nobody's been around it for two days or I'd ask them about it. I was just curious, never seen this type of set-up. Bet it cost a bunch.

I'll bet it's a 3800 that is a monster and it ain't cheap my 2010 3750 has 5 slides only 2 have the cable drive. 5 hydrolic slides would need sooo much oil and all the lines and valves yikes.:eek:

I was wrong, only the front two slides have the cables. The other 3 (larger) are hydraulic.

Yep of 2012 343rl has cable slides. Love em. All four are cable operated,

so cable slides and chain driven slides are the same thing?

I have an 01 2880rl that has hyd slides and both the LR and kitchen slides have cables underneath on the bottom of the slides. The hyd. pump runs when the slides go in and out, so I dont think the cables are used for moving them. I asked on here a month or so ago what people thought they could be for, but no one had much of a guess.

One of these days I will get under to add tank heaters and better insulation, I'll post what I find out then. I will also be putting a manifold and solenoids into the hydraulic circuits so I can choose which one I want to move then as well. The nickel they saved with their design is a pain on the road.
