We are planning on a 4 month trip to Alaska in the near future. Would like to hear from anyone that has made such a trip pulling a travel trailer. I am really interested for information on pulling a travel trailer on the Dempster and Dalton highways.

Can be done pretty easy, but need to be prepared.

Do carry an extra spare for everything, air pump, a good tire repair kit with lots of extras, and know how to break a tire down for repair and to reseat on the rim. Doesn't happen often but does happen.

Also need to add protection to front of trailer for flying debris.

Take extras but be ready for anything. When broke both rear leaf springs on our 5ver on the intertstate in Edmundton BC. Luckly they have a leaf spring factory there and we were back on the road in less than 24 hours. I had to wait for WalMart to open in the morning to buy another jack and jack stands to change them out while parked in a gas station. Alaska was great but the back country in BC was better. The Provinscial Parks are inexpensive, a few dollars a night and some provide fire wood. Every little town has a city park and they have free dump stations and fresh water in the park. I could be a Canadian easy. Beautiful Country.
Have a great trip and while in BC if your navagator (the DW) says to you that there are a lot of towns on the map with the same name "FERRY", there not towns. There are Ferry's to get you across the lakes and most are free.

Along the Dalton Hwy, you will meet trucks going both north and south. Be prepared to replace windshield and repair nicks to paint after the trip. One thing to note, if you plan to go all the way to the Arctic Ocean you will need to take a bus. Personal autos are not allowed the last 20 miles. Take lots of bug spray if going in July or August. Have fun and enjoy your trip...

Jim - Thanks for the compliments about "Beautiful BC". It may have been a while since you last visited BC, but our Provincial Parks no longer supply free firewood and; like everything else, they are not as inexpensive as they once were. Remember also that they do not have hookups. Some have washrooms with showers and real toilets but many have just outhouses. For what you get, they could be described as being expensive!
You won't have to pay for ferries that run on our Interior lakes but carry a full wallet if you take your RV on any of the coastal ones! If you're coming from Texas, you probably wouldn't be heading near the BC coast anyway.

There is another forum I frequent (but not as often as I frequent this one). They have a section devoted to RV'ing in Canada and Alaska and there is a tone of info over there.

You should read everything you can find over there but, please, make sure you come back to us here!
