We will be headed into one of three different national forests (haven't decided which direction to go yet). A number of favorite spots, just kind of waiting to find out how many from our group are going so we know which spot to head for.

This (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HxKzkUqiqF8/T7MPxhXC_PI/AAAAAAAAA4E/SpwjQ2_YUwg/s512/IMGP3835_3_4-PS.jpg) is one of my favorite spots. No picnic tables or outhouses -- but the price is sure right. :D

Cedar Hill State Park in Texas. This park is about 20 miles south of Dallas. It is close to my grandkids.

Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend is the season opening for Bass in Michigan. We'll be at a "sweet lake" in the upper pennisulia of Michigan, in a remote state forest campground "dry camping" with the bass boat, dog and enough "adult beverage" to make the weekend successful even if the fish aren't biting :)

Who knows, if it's nice, we may stay a week or so.

We will be camping northwest of Fort Worth with friends. It will be the "shakedown trip" for some of the mods I've done over the winter, getting ready for a trip to Creede, CO this summer.

We are heading to Crane Prairie Reservoir for some of Oregon's best bass fishing. The lake is in the high desert of central Oregon. We will also be "dry camping". Might also try and catch the million dollar trout!

I guess I'm just getting old. We use to couldn't wait for a holiday to camping and mengle with large groups of people, but now a days we leave that to you younger bunch. We wait until the groups are gone back home or to work then we go camping when it's quit and calm. I guess us older folks call it relaxing, younger people call it hermitizing. Anyway I hope all of you have a wonderful and exciting memorial day weekend and you all get home safely. I'll be thinking of you all as I sip that cocktail while watching white tail deer from my back porch.:party:

We will get our turn at that strategy when retirement comes. Still a few years away right now

Ruffus, Camp where we camp and you may well be the only one in the campground. The SF campground at our "sweet lake" has a total of 5 sites. I've never seen more than 3 (including us) campers at any given time, even in the busiest of camping seasons. Usually, when we arrive, we're the only ones there and late nights/early mornings the UP moose, bears, deer roam the campground causing us to stay near the camper or hustle to the boat and out onto the water. As the day progresses, there's less wildlife activity. Certainly the "human wildlife activity" is virtually non-existant.

For trips to more populated areas, we also use the strategy of leaving to go camping when the younger generation is returning home. Makes for a much nicer morning cup of coffee when you don't hear mom turn down her radio to yell at the top of her lungs at her kids to be quiet and not wake up the neighbors.... <sigh> :(

Sounds like those of you in other states are able to make plans
and go camping on short notice.

Out here in California we have to make reservations for camping
anywhere from 8 to 12 months in advance......

How many of you know what your going to be doing that far in
advance??

We are staying at home this 3 day weekend and will go camping
a couple of weeks later.

We have been three season campers up until we got our new unit. Fall, Winter, and Spring! Schedules and work load got in the way for Summer! We now have the schedules and just tend to ignore the work load, we have two weeks planed later this month. We could have picked up an overnighter, for Saturday this weekend, but needed to get ready for a trip to Hawaii. :D

We are camping in Berlin, Ohio with 2 other couples. We do this a couple times a year on long weekends. Great area being its Amish area. Love going to their special stores. Probably go home broke in the pocket again like always.

Well, my stratagy of waiting for the crowds to go home then go camping didn't pan out. The Central A/C in the house took a dump on the hottest day of the year so far (90+) and we have a tropical storm coming in tomorrow and it's a holiday weekend so A/C repair with my home insurance has gone fishing, so I guess we'll be camping in the driveway with the trailer A/C going.

Jim -
But there is an up-side to your wayward plans. Camping in your driveway means you get the choice of the prime sites, wildlife roaming in your back 40 and no one will notice all those drinks that you have been sipping on. :party:Enjoy.;)

Unfortunately, my DW and I are spending the Holiday weekend at home: But she's making me join some friends for BBQ this evening: And tomorrow I'll have to grill those country style ribs and have something cold to drink and then watch the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600, oh what a life. I know it's bad but somebody has to do it. Fortunately, we'll be heading out for our 2nd camping trip in our 5er in a couple of weeks. Going to Alabama to meet friends.

We are visiting DC this long weekend. Campground seems to be nice....we are not spending much time here. Really not my idea of camping (more a mountains/woods person) but we enjoy DC and would rather spend what time we do spend away ffom sightseeing in our own pllace. We have only had this TT since Thur but it already feels like our home away fom home. Sites here are somewhat congested but this is supposed to be the best CG in the area with hookups.

Have a great holiday y'all. Remember the veterens alive and well, alive and surviving injury, and those who gave their all. Remember their families also. They deserve our honor.

:usflag:

250,000 motorcycles here this weekend for Rolling Thunder.....all vets.

Well Fetus, your right about the up side. DW said she'd make me some toll house cookies for being such a good boy. Then a lodge member called and they need help putting out flags on fellow veterans graves. As far as the drinks, I talk bigger than I am, one drink and I'm finished. That part of me grew up after I got out of twenty years of law enforcement and a love affair with scotch. Kids, we all have to grow up sometime, dog gone-it!:scuba:

Yeah. The state parks around us are the same way. I hate the 'not so new' reservation crap. I can remember as a kid driving up on a Friday getting a spot and staying for 2 weeks during each summer. Now you are lucky to reserve a spot for more than 3 days in a row. :banghead:

We try to camp every spring break at Lake Catherine State Park. We have to make reservations a year in advance to get a spot. We make reservations for the following year when we check in. Its a one nights stay non-refundable gamble that we will be able to go the next year. :(

The reservation junk keeps us away from camping on holiday weekends.

We got up Friday morning to 1/2" of snow on the ground. Saturday We braved high seas on the lake and a down pour all afternoon (thank god for the wall tent and Washoes) Sunday cleared up and caught a few trout. Monday we had a pretty uneventful trip back to reality.
