Range Hood Exhaust

Has anyone ever added a side wall vent from the back of there range hood? I have a 2012 Bullet Premier 31bhpr & would to try it. My old 2007 Montana Mountaineer 32bhs had it, worked great.

No vent to outside. Also for 2012 only first units got SS fridge & micro, mine are black, no led tail lights, or U shaped dinnette. I still bought the trailer anyway, it looks good,,,but need the vent!

I turned the fan on, went on the roof, but nothing was coming out.

This thread got me curious... I went and looked at my camper yesterday... Mine "filters" and recirculates the air back into the RV... Uh.. FAIL.. lol.

Luckily the fantastic fan is in the kitchen. So the range hood is now just a night light for us.

It is actually the same thing for us -

just a night light!

We have a Shur Flo fan in our kitchen area and the bedroom to suck that smell out!

PLEASE reconsider before you attempt to divert cooking exhaust with oil and grease in it to the refrigerator vent stack. That space has electrical and gas components in it. Additionally, there is a propane flame in the area. Exhausting grease into that area will cause the grease and cooking oils to accumulate and over time create a fire hazard. That space is not designed to accommodate cooking exhaust and you'll create a fire hazard in time.

Well I ordered a new range hood with outside vent. Should be fun cutting a rectangle hole through the new trailer!

I did my '06 Outback and it was fairly easy, but it had a convertible fan in it. I removed back knockout from fan and marked the wall behind fan as to where the hole will be, take fan back down and drill through wall at 4 corners. Go outside of unit and tape off wall where holes are. If you have a Roto-Zip or equivelent it will make the job much more easy when cutting fiber glass. for the inside just use a utility knife as it wont be as messy.

Some bright Bean Counter must have figured out that the RV MFR could save a couple of bucks by not venting outside. This has been brought up on other forums so Keystone isn't alone. Other folks are making comments like "Blowing smoke back into your Face". For us that would be a deal breaker. We use our Convection Oven all the time and wouldn't want it blowing the hot air back inside, especially when it's 95 outside and both airs are running. Everybody that's getting smoke in their face, needs to express their displeasure to their Dealer and on as many forums as you can, maybe, just maybe MRFs will wise up and go back to the outside vents.

All of the range hoods have th exhaust cover that can be removed. The issue with the newer trailers, at least with my Outback 277RL, is that the kitchen window extends too far behind the cooktop and interferes where the cutout to the outside to be. If not for that, it would be a no brainer to vent it to the outside. One guy sent me a PDF of the exhaust plenum he built, bit it looks pretty elaborate and I'm not a sheet metal guy. I havn't taken it to a shop to see what could be done with it. If I can find it, I'll come back and attach it to this post.
Shame on me. My Jayco had it and I just assumed that all of the builders did it the same way. What idiot would design a range hood installation that would only blow back in your face? Hey Keystone, are you reading this thread?

I have the same issue with my 31BHPR. When I did the PDI with my dealer, he told me it vented to the roof. After my first time cooking in the rig, I realized it was a load of crap. And I was REALLY pi$$ed off.

My solution was to install a Maxx fan in the ceiling vent near the galley. It does an outstanding job of venting heat and smoke on the rare occasions that I cook indoors. Much better then the hood fan I had in my last two trailers. Plus the Maxx Air keeps the camper cool when the windows are open.

:)Got the range hood changed today. I used a Milwakee 12 volt ? Plunge Cut ? saw with a wood blade, cut easily through.

Our 2012 avalanche just recirculates cooking heat back inside. there is a vent fan just above the cooking area but the switch is in a box across the room and around the counter. I too will possibly be adding a vent to the wall soon.

My 2011 Laredo 310re also does not have the vent. I called Keystone and they suggested opening the overhead vent...ha. I'm 6'1" and can not reach it without a ladder. So I am also thinking of making the vent myself but wonder what is behind that wall. What if one of the alum studs is right there and you have the holes drilled?? Think I'll just open the door.

Good thread. We're in the process of buying a 2300BH and discovered on the walk-through that the stove hood doesn't vent to the outside. We cook a lot and I'm not fond of the thought that hot steam will blow back into my face and assorted cooking aromas will settle inside the trailer.

The quote from the dealer to vent the stove hood outside before we purchase is around $450.

We are installing a reversibly 3-speed FantasticFan in the kitchen ceiling, replacing the little fan that's currently in there. The trailer we have now has a Fantastic Fan and it's a 'must have' for us. So, for now we'll not vent the stove to the outside and will see how the ceiling exhaust fan in combination with the existing hood handles cooking odors and grease. We may retrofit at a later date.

I'm glad to see that others have this same concern. I posted about it on another forum and received the suggestion that we were 'nit picky'. Someone clearly doesn't cook :)

I was happy to read this! Our new Passport is also not vented to the outside. We explored having the dealer install a vented hood but it was going to be expensive. Our previous TT had a 3-speed reversible Fantastic Fan which we used all the time. The new Passport just had the skylight in the kitchen. We had them replace that with a Fantastic Fan and a MaxxAir fan cover and want to try that to exhaust cooking heat and aromas before re-examining a vented exhaust.

I'm glad to know this works for you and hope it'll do the job for us as well.

Has anyone switched their vented 12V hood for a 120V? My 12V vented hood does the job but is annoyingly loud and has only one speed.
