We are looking to purchase our first travel trailer. One of the models we are interested in is the 09 Passport BH, any thoughts on this trailer would be so greatly appreciated. We also looked at the 2010 Passport 3050 BHS, they seem pretty similar, however, the 3050 BHS has larger slide outs.
Thanks in advance.

Larger slide outs are awesome. It really makes the interior feel spacious. If the cost is ok, I’d go for the newer one. Just make sure you have a long-wheelbase tow vehicle that can pull at least 7400 lbs and a hitch/rear axle that can handle 750 lbs.

The tow vehicle we have is a Chevy Silverado 1500. I am pretty sure we are good as far as tow weight, I will have to do more research on the wheelbase. Thanks for the info!! :)

If your truck is an extended or crew cab, you should be good on the wheelbase. A sway control hitch will make it that much better.

I have a 2010 passport 285RL w/12ft slide. My GMC 1500 with Z71 off road Pkg., pulls just fine. It is the wife myself & Lab. We have gobs of room. Like it a lot! Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the info!! :)Great TT but towing it won't be fun. It's simply too big for you rig regardless what it says you are capable of towing. Been there done that. The 26BH is about as big as you want to go and even that will be no picnic.

You didn’t mention the specs on your Silverado, but give the Trailer Life Towing Guide a look. Make sure you know your axle gear ratio as well as the other stuff.

There are plenty of 'rules of thumb' out there... And by and far, they err on the side of caution and being overly conservative.

As far as length goes, here's one that gets circulated around the net:
For the first 110" of wheelbase, this allows you 20' of (bumper pull) trailer.
For each additional 4" of wheelbase, this gets you 1' more of trailer.

Assume you have a pickup truck with a 140" wb...

140 (total truck wb) - 110 (your 20' allotment) = 30" left over for the 1' additions.

30 / 4 = 7.5'

So the 140" wb would be "good" for a 27.5' long bumper pull RV.

27.5 seems about right for a max length with a 1/2 ton vehicle.
But pretty conservative for 3/4 ton or greater.

I personally used to have a 32' bumper pull travel trailer I pulled behind a 3/4 ton Dodge. That trailer was balanced VERY well - fresh water tank right near the tongue helped.

We have a 2010 300BH and love it! We have 2 kids (who each bring a friend most of the time) and there is plenty of room for all. The large slides give a bit more room, but at the expense of additional weight. The 300BH short slides still open the area up enough plus gives a little additional clearance from side obstacles! We pull ours with a '06 Sierra 1500 Crew with the VortecMax 6.0 liter and 4.10 gears...plenty of pulling power for normal trips. I would recommend a test run with either. We took ours to South Dakota in 2010 and the mountains were a bit of a slow down, but not bad. We liked the layout of the 300BH better than pretty much all others we looked at.
I think either one you choose you will enjoy it lots!!!

Lol. I pull mine with a 2500 Avalanche 8.1L just a little over kill. I know I some times forget its back there. Gas milage is about the same with or without the TT back there 11 either way.
