Well have a Laredo and it came with the factory BBQ. I like the idea of using the rear bracket and LPG connection but is the BBQ worth a darn to use?

Hi Diesel Dude,

We have had our 291TG with the outdoor kitchen and bbq for a year now. After about the 3rd time camping with it I ordered the Camco 57305 Olympian 5500 Stainless Steel Grill from Amazon. This works much better than that piece of junk (imho) supplied by Keystone.

We use ours.It works ok. When it gets too nasty I figured I will just replace it with a Weber Q and put a shelf on the mounting bracket. For now it does the job and it's paid for.

We didn't get one with our new Keystone trailer (and really didn't want one, they are not worth what they charge for the option IMO) but had one on our Forestriver trailer and to be honest with you I thought it was junk! I could cook food quicker on a charcoal grill or over the campfire.

We used ours for the first time this past weekend.....I am surprised that I am not still cooking a hamburger on it right now. I have never seen a grill cook that slow. Rather cheaply constructed too. I would definately not recommend the "Flame King"!

I have never liked or used stamped steel BBQ's. I feel they don't hold the heat.
I have a CharBroil portable that I use on my Cougar 297RKS. I bought the fittings to convert it to the bayonet hose and right now it is balanced on the cheap frame that Keysone supplied. That will be changed to an aluminum custom made bracket.
I converted a no name cast aluminum BBQ to use the on board low pressure propane on our last 5th and love it. No packing an extra 20 lb bottle or a number of 1 LB throw-aways.
the kit I used to convert the old BBQ was a Camco kit, CW has them now as do a lot of independent RV shops.

Similar to campingcpl we too had the Forest River version. Absolutely a piece of junk. Not only did it not heat effectively, but once you greased it up nicely, you had to put it back into the storage. bad idea if you ask me. I now bring charcoal for the camp ground grill or lately I have brought my electric smoker. Also, the outdoor kitchen cooktops usually stink too. Anything less than a high flame is blown out promptly by the wind.

I had a feeling the supplied BBQ was garbage. I will stick with our charbroil BBQ.

What is needed to convert my current BBQ to use the trailers LPG.

I'm not a big fan of the supplied RVQ either. Not very well made. It worked fine this past weekend though because the outside temp was warm and there was no wind. I have used it when a cool wind was blowing and the wind seems to blow the hot air out of the BBQ extending cooking times considerably. Also the wind can easily blow it out. I am a cheap fart and will continue to use it for a while, but will eventually upgrade to something much better.

Dude.
If your going to use the quick connect from your factory junker, your going to have to remove the requlator at the grill (2 regulators = itty bitty flame). I bought a 12' hose and direct connect to one of my 30lbs bottles, leaving the regulator on the Webber Q (leaves the option for the little bottles for games and races).

Let's burn some steaks!!!:cool3:

I have a Brinkman electric smoker grill from Home Depot . For $69 it is great once you learn how to use it. I usually set it up as a smoker and take whater meat your cooking and smoke it for about 10 minutes then drop it down on the grill to finish it off. I use mine year round at the house even in the back part of the shop in the winter. Bought a temperature control for it so i can cold smoke in the winter

We are also not impressed with this grill & will probably never use it.

While I really enjoy our Outback, I'm not impressed with any of the outdoor appliances that Keystone uses. We have the outdoor "mini kitchen" with the gas cooktop and a sink. I'm used the cooktop twice to saute onions, but that's about it. For grilling I have a Baby Q that I rigged with a QC so I can plug into the trailer's outside propane connection and it works great. Almost every evening meal gets cooked on the Weber.

Diesel Dude -
If you check out Bob Landry's post found in yesterday's Light Weight TT section entitled "BBQ Mount", he has the information you are looking for as well as some very good photos which show what you need and how it is assembled.

Its way to small for a family of 6. I have a Passport 2910bh and bought a Coleman and put a "T" on my front LP tank to run a 10ft house to the grill.

I always bring a baby weber for barbeque. I purchased a steel plate which I was going to try and use as a griddle on top of the RVQ. After reading this, I doubt the RVQ would heat the plate enough to cook anything. Still looking for an outdoor solution, other than the Weber, has anyone tried the "Blacktop 360?" http://www.blacktop360.com/

I've been hesitant to use the RVQ because I don't want to return it to the storage bag or pass thru to attract crumbsnatchers. I always take the baby weber in the back of my truck and store it at home.

A member from another site made his own outdoor kitchen, I'll try to find some pics and post them.

Just love the Webber 200, with added temp gauge, light, stand & cover. I leave it on the stand, fold it & put it in the outdoor kitchen when moving.

What size bit did you use to drill it out? I'm not sure what it would take to get it to 20,000 BTU.

Any picture or advice on how you did this?

So my father worked for Amerigas for 25 years. He has a set of bits that are numbered and has a corresponding chart that states btu's-size and NG-propane.
We grabbed the 20,000 bit and ran it through by hand.
