What do you pull that 27 sab with?
I have a 2011 27 sab and really like it.

We are pulling it with a 2012 RAM 2500 (with the V8). Only place I've towed so far is home from the dealer - about an hour away. Got it through the gate and into the back yard with no major issues - but backing up is definitely different on a fifth wheel than a tt. Our last trailer was a 17 foot 1976 Prowler so the 27SAB is a huge step up for us. Can't wait to take it out, but we are in Kansas and there are still some cold nights so we are hesitant to de-winterize yet - plus the next few weekends will be taken up with basketball :). We just made our first reservation for the last weekend in April for the first camping weekend and already have reservations for Estes Park in June.

Any tips or tricks you have would be appreciated.

I tow my 318SAB with a Dodge Ram 3500 series diesel dually. I would not tow with anything smaller.

Remember, many vehicles have the power to tow, but you have to stop also.

We have a 26SAB and tow with a 2008 Dodge 2500 CTD. Tows like a dream. No problem with crosswinds or being passed by semi's. Engine brake provides good slowing power for downhill runs and saves the brakes. While 5'er is rated for a 1/2T, and I've read of people with good success towing with a 1/2T, the 3/4 T provides much more stability, more payload and of course can't beat the diesel for efforless towing. I get between 12 and 14 MPG while towing which is probably about 20% better than with gas.

Hi Base and others.
I tow my 2011 sab with a 2010 maxtow lariat f150, 3.73 rear, 6.5 box., 7756 gvwr.
I weigh everything and the fiver dry states 6920 and mine is 6922!!!!

I keep the box empty and have a loaded pin around 1050-1100. Hitch is 200.
My little guys are 6 and 8 so with wife we are close on axle and gvwr. I added supersprings and LT rires to help the tow and handling.

I am not a speed freak and am very happy with the towing. We went from Calgary, Ab, to Nova Scotia last summer ( 13, 000 km) and it was really good.

Loaded I was around 8300 lbs and feel comfortable with that but will not go higher.
Most important to me is the braking and cooling are both strong. The compression/tranny braking is useful on the hills. The 6 speed has me towing in 4 or 5th most of the time and 10 mpg on the big trip was good.

As for the fiver, I had a welder fabricate 2 receivers on the back for the bike rack and genny. Also, fixed the drain lines on the bottom as I did not like the caps. Heating in the master bedroom is poor but I can fix that. Great lite fiver

You guys all have the stronger truck for sure ,but, as long as I keep my weights as is I feel confident in everything. There are only a few 150/1500 trucks I would tow this fiver with.

Towing power is usually not a problem,going over on gross weight is! Most pickups are capable of pulling but good luck with the liabilities if you get in a accident and your over on gross weight.If you are set on the camper of your wishes then don't skimp on the TV it is the most important part of the whole equation, if you can't get there safely then it's not worth it,if you can't afford the proper TV then perhaps finding a lighter weight camper with similar features is the best option, just my 2 cents.

My GCWR is 17, 100 and I am loaded at about 15,200.
The truck gross is 7700 and my last trip had me 100 under. The tow rating is 11, 100 and I am around 8200. Payload is 1550 and I am at 1500 bang on. The RAWR is 4050 and this is at max also.

Some of these numbers are useless as you would never get to one rating without exceeding the others. I am fully aware of liability and hence stay at the weights I posted. I chose the lite fiver I have as it works for our family and is within specs of TV.

The power is a non issue and the braking and cooling are both fantastic.

We have a 2011 26SAB that we pull with a 2003 F150 7700. The truck handles the 5er with no problems and we typically average 10 mpg. I must admit that on I70 coming up to the Eisenhower Tunnel (Colorado) at 11,158 feet I was down to 40 mph. But for us this wasn't an issue as we typically take out time.

Prior to the Cougar we pulled a 26 ft. Jayco Eagle 5th Wheel (almost the exact same weight) for 8 years all over Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming with this truck.

I have a 2009 293SAB and pull it with a 2008 F350. I don't even know its back there, I set the cruise at 65 and don't look back. Used to pull a TT with the same truck, after pulling a 5th wheel now I'll never go back down.

318SAB being towed by a 1996 5.9 Ram Dually 3500. HOWEVER, I added a new one ton auto trany, shift assist, Jake brake and first level Banks. We managed all those passes between Mexico and Washington State. Love my Daully!

That is an interesting combination 50# under GVWR of 7,700# and right at the GAWR on the rear axle, that on a semi floating axle.

I don't want to have to weight everything to be sure that I don't exceed my GAWR's. Even though I slightly exceed my trucks GVWR, I am only at less than 90% of my GAWR, both front and rear.
